Godfrey George Watson has over 50years experience as a Heritage and Cultural Management Administrator and Consultant, with specialization in Heritage and Culture project development, analysis, management information systems, event planning and production. He is also an expert in the field of community development, institutional strengthening and project cycle management.
Mr. Watson is the conceptualizer and implementer of the Homecoming Model of community development to empower community people to develop and manage their common social and economic resources to improve the quality of life of its people. He established the St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation, which is recognized as Jamaica’s leading NGO and this has become an international model for community development.
During his career Mr. Watson has acquired tremendous experience in the design, implementation and management of major Cultural and Heritage productions in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the United Kingdom. He had worked in the planning and monitoring of development projects in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the United and programs for local and international funding agencies.
Mr. Watson is currently the Executive Director of Kingston & St. Andrew Development & Homecoming Foundation Limited since 2016 and in past worked in the capacity of Director in several National Organizations and projects including Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, Hands Across Jamaica a Project under the leadership of Governor General Sir Howard Cooke, St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation, Jamaica National Heritage Trust, Columbus Quinquennial Program, Marcus Garvey Centenary Program, Jamaica Carifesta Secretariat and Jamaica Festival Commission.
For outstanding service to Jamaica, Mr. Watson has received several National awards including Prime Minister’s Medal, Appreciation for Outstanding Work in Education & Cultural Heritage Development and in 2005 the Order of Distinction (Officer Rank) for Cultural Heritage & Community Development. He also received awards from other prestigious institutions such as Mico University Centenary Gold Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Education, Culture & Community Development, Centenary Medal for Craft & Community Development from Institute of Jamaica, Distinguished Award for Leadership from Kiwanis Club of Liguanea and community awards from St. Elizabeth Parish Community and Organizations.
Mr. Watson served as President of Kiwanis Club of Liguanea and sat on several community organizations as a member including St. Elizabeth Parish Council Development Com- mittee, Friends of Black River Hospital, Holland Bamboo Redevelopment Committee, South Coast Resort Board and Accompong Maroon Advisory Committee.
