Dr. Prasad Chalasani is a nationally recognized Interventional Cardiologist and Structural Heart specialist with more than three decades of clinical, academic, and research leadership. He currently serves as Program Director for Cardiovascular Medicine and Associate Program Director for Internal Medicine at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where he leads curriculum development, resident and fellow education, clinical governance, and scholarly activity.
He is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Florida State University College of Medicine and holds additional faculty appointments with Florida Atlantic University and NTR University in India. Across these institutions, he has taught and mentored medical students, residents, fellows, and international trainees for over 25 years, earning multiple teaching awards including the FSU Guardian of the Mission Community Faculty Award (2025) and the Outstanding Teacher Award (2010).
As President of Florida Heart Center since 1997, Dr. Chalasani maintains an active clinical practice with expertise spanning interventional cardiology, structural heart interventions (including TAVR, MitraClip, ASD closure), peripheral vascular interventions, nuclear cardiology, and advanced cardiac CT imaging. He trained at the prestigious Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center at Emory University, under pioneers such as Dr. Spencer King and Dr. John Douglas.
Dr. Chalasani has held major administrative roles including Chief of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and chairmanship of multiple hospital committees. Nationally, he contributes to cardiovascular governance through leadership roles with HCACVS, the American College of Cardiology, and industry structural heart education programs.
A prolific clinical researcher, he has served as Principal Investigator for numerous multicenter Phase III trials in heart failure, structural heart disease, arrhythmia management, and coronary interventions. His work includes contributions to landmark studies such as ALLEVIATE-HF, GUIDE-HF, TOPCAT, COURAGE, and many others. He has authored or co-authored over 45 publications, abstracts, and case reports, with ongoing research in TAVR outcomes, pacemaker utilization, radiation reduction, and structural heart innovation.
Dr. Chalasani is an invited international speaker, delivering named lectures and CME sessions across the U.S., India, and the Caribbean. His academic and clinical excellence has been recognized with numerous national and institutional honors, including multiple gold medals and merit awards dating back to his medical training.
He is board-certified in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiovascular CT, and Internal Medicine, and remains deeply committed to advancing cardiovascular care through education, innovation, and compassionate patient-centered practice.
